PLAYOFFS: ROUND ROBIN WEEK
MAR 16-23, 2014

We are back with all your Novice AE news from the last week and what a week it was.  After having a slow start to the playoffs in Wallaceburg this week saw the kids take flight in 5 more games of round robin action.

Sunday we continued on the road with a 3 game road trip.  The first stop was in LaSalle to face the Sabres…..again.  This game would see the Jr. Spits start to come into form with some consistent play scoring 2 goals in each period downing the Sabres 6-2.  This was the 10th time we have played the Sabres and the Spits have so far gone a perfect 10-0 against them.

Next up we are off to meet our old friends in Tecumseh who we haven't played since our exhibition match back in early November.  At this point the kids really are starting to play well together and they had a solid game vs the regular season champion Eagles.  The Jr. Spits took the lead in the third but Tecumseh would even it up and the game ended 2-2.  Most importantly Windsor would walk away with a point which would turn out to be very valuable later.

It’s Friday now and we are making our last stop on the road in Essex to face the Ravens.  Although this game would end lopsided with a 11-2 win for Windsor I will say we saw much improvement in this young Ravens team.   While they scored 2 good goals they also had some great chances to get more.  Great job Essex! Looking good for next season!

On Saturday we would land back home at Windsor Airport safe sound.  We would host the Chatham-Kent Cobras a team we could not beat all year going 0-1-2.  This was the game to see though.  The kids showed with absolutely no signs of jet lag and would skate to a perfect game beating the Cobras 6-0!!!  Every kid on the team played great and Jack earned his second shutout of the playoffs.  It was awesome!

Lastly on Sunday we would finish the round robin when the Belle River Jr Canadiens AE1 came to Knox.  Running off a high from an incredible win the day before the Jr Spits would play well but would show a few signs of old bad habits.  They still played good and with scoring the million dollar shot from Jaksen Ward in the last minute the Spits would win 3-0.  This was an emotional defeat for Belle River as this loss would eliminate them from the playoffs and end their season.  We thank them for their competitiveness and sportsmanship and also wish them the best of luck in their next season.

The round robin portion of the playoffs in now over and with great defense and solid goaltending the WMHA Novice AE team went 5-0-1 which made them the top seed for the semi-finals 1 point ahead of the Tecumseh.

What a great week!  Next up on Tuesday we play the 4th seed LaSalle Sabres and the winner will advance to the Day of Champions in Amherstburg on Sunday.

GO SPITS GO!!!
