Travel Tryouts

Tryouts for the 2021/22 Hockey Season are coming up!

Travel Tryouts are right around the corner, and some of the processes and procedures have changed.  Anyone with a child who intends to try out for AAA Zone, WMHA AA, or AE and NRP players wishing to try out at WMHA should read the following, very carefully.

AAA:  All players residing within the WMHA boundaries who intend to try out for AAA, need to complete the “Intent to try out form”.  This INCLUDES players who were rostered to AAA for the 2019/20 or 2020/21 seasons.  Anyone requiring a AAA permission to skate form should click the appropriate box indicating such.  All players intending to try out for AAA will also be required to register with WMHA.  This, again, INCLUDES players who were rostered to AAA for the 2019/20 or 2020/21 seasons.  This is for insurance purposes.  Due to fall tryouts, players are no longer covered under the previous season’s insurance as in the past, so they must register with their home AA or A center.  If successful at AAA tryouts, refunds will be provided if necessary.  Players who were rostered with AAA Zone for the previous year can contact the registrar at [email protected] in order to manually complete the process to avoid making a payment prior to tryouts.  This ONLY applies to players previously rostered to AAA.

AA/AE:  Players wishing to try out for WMHA AA or AE will be required to purchase a tryout pass and fill in the Intent to tryout forms.  This includes players who have played WMHA Travel in the past, as well as new WMHA travel players.  If the pass and intent form are not completed, players will not be permitted to try out.  In order to try out for AE, players must have tried out for the appropriate AA team and been released.

Tryout Pass:  Every player (U9 and Above) who intends to try out for a travel team will be required to purchase a tryout pass.  This pass can be purchased through the Hockey Canada registration portal while registering for the season for $80.  If you are already registered, you can purchase the pass through the same Hockey Canada Registration process, simply by logging into your HCR account, choosing the participant and entering the registration process.  When asked to choose a registration, select “Skip this step” and add 1 tryout pass.  The tryout pass will cover your child’s tryout fees for Dust the rust skates, AA tryouts and AE tryouts if required.  Deadline is 11:59pm Monday September 4th.  U8 Tryout information will be communicated at a later date

Intent to tryout:  We are launching an Intent to tryout form this year.  EVERY PLAYER (U8 and above) who intends to try out for a Travel team (AAA, AA, AE) is required to fill out a WMHA Intent to try out form.  This form will allow us to ensure we have adequate ice available for try outs in case there are still government restrictions for on ice participants.  Players from A centers intending to try out in U12 and above as NRP players will also need to complete this form before being allowed to try out.  If your player has not filled out a form AND purchased a tryout pass, he or she will not be permitted to skate in tryouts and thus be ineligible for a travel team.  Any player applying to try out a year up will need to be approved by the VP of travel, and be rated as one of the top 3 forwards, top 2 defence or top goalie.  Deadline is 11:59pm Monday September 4th

NRP Players:  Any U12 (2010 birth year) and older non WMHA players residing in an A center who whish to try out at WMHA for a AA team will be required to complete the Intent to tryout form as well as purchase a tryout pass.  NRP players will not be able to purchase the pass through the registration portal and should reach out to [email protected] to complete the process.  NRP players who purchase the pass will be eligible for the dust the rust skates as well.  NRP players are required to obtain an NRP approval form from their home center’s VP of Travel prior to tryouts and they must be registered with their home center.
