The Tournament Wins Keep Coming!
The U9 Windsor Junior Spitfires coached by Rob Gyori, and sponsored by the Forest Glade and Tecumseh Animal Hospitals, won the Warrior / Granite Division of the Belle River U9 Full ICE Championship, which hosted 76 U9 teams from across Ontario and the U.S., over the weekend. The Jr. Spits started the tournament with an exciting come from behind victory in their first game. Down 2-0 with 2 minutes remaining in the game, the boys mounted a comeback for the ages, scoring the game tying goal as time expired, and the game winning goal on the first shift of overtime. The team went on to finish the tournament with a 4-1 record, defeating their Bluewater rivals, the Erie North Shore Storm, 2-1 in the finals. This was an awesome performance by all of the boys and a great job by coaches Rob Gyori, Scott Fryer, Kerey Herrmann, and Andrew Kirby, for the team’s first full-ice tournament. We’re looking forward to the team’s continued success!

The U18B Spitfires, coached by Frank Providenti and Mike Stannard, travelled to the “Windy City” to take part in the Chicago Mid Winter Classic. As Windsor took the ice for the first game the crowd could be heard chanting USA…USA…USA . This provided motivation for the boys to represent which resulted in a 2-1 victory. Windsor finished the round robin play with a 2-0-1 record thanks to the amazing goaltending tandem of Caleb Dunne and Aryton Mancinone recording a combined save percentage of .915. Windsor entered the championship game to a full house as the favourite landing in first place in round robin play. The championship game provided intense back and forth action with Mancinone holding firm and keeping Windsor in contention. Conner Hanna, capping off an amazing weekend provided the go-ahead goal on a beautiful feed from Luca Pinese to take the lead with five minutes to play. Unfortunately, the lead didn’t hold, and the game went to 4v4 overtime.
Coach Stannard, the wily veteran outmatched the opposing coach with line combinations with speed and accuracy that would make your head spin. Finally, Vincent MacMillan potted the game winning goal on a two-pass feed from Stasio-Stannard and Hanna capturing the gold medal. Congratulations on a great weekend of memories
The U18A team Coached by George Voros and Elmer Charmichael, were in Trenton Michigan this weekend for the Hockeytown Mid Winter Classic. The boys went 3-0 in round robin play. The Spits then matched up against Riley HS from Indiana in the finals after beating them 3-2 in round robin. Blake Cowgill opened the scoring on a beauty pass from Tony Beloulis and then goals from Sperdutti and Belcoure and an empty netter from Nalli propelled boys to gold with a 4-0 win and shutout from Austin Senay !!! Great weekend by the boys and coaches
