2018/2019 Travel Coaching Applications

The Windsor Minor Hockey Association is now accepting Coaching Applications for our 2018/2019 Travel teams.

All applications must be submitted by Wednesday February 28th 2018

WMHA Coach Selection Process

Coaching Application Process:

 

Stage 1 - the online Coach Application (as found on the WMHA web page) is to be completed in full.

Stage 2 - a series of questions will be sent to all applicants. The questions are to be answered and returned to the WMHA Board room mail box at 1551 Wyandotte St W, Windsor, ON N9A 6S1 in a large envelope (9x12”) labelled to the V.P of Travel. Deadline for the questions to be returned is Sunday, March, 11th ,2018

The Coaching Selection Committee: which consists of : V.P of travel, Travel Director, Ron Lohnes, Dean Lapierre, and Al Iatonna

Screening Process:

Stage 1 - Review and evaluation of the online coach applications and questions. This stage includes all the members of the Selection Committee.  The outcome of this stage is to make a short list of candidates to interview.

Selection Committee will meet on March 12th, 2018. Only those selected for the interview process will be contacted.

Stage 2 - Face-to-Face Interviews.  This stage is chaired by the VP of travel and includes the Selection Committee.  The objective of this stage is to assess the coaching candidates abilities on:

1) Overall hockey knowledge.

2) The ability to evaluate, build and develop a team according to an organized and well prepared season plan.

3) The ability to teach hockey and hockey-related skills.

4) The necessity to be a leader and role model on the bench, in the dressing room and on and off the ice.

5) The ability to be an ambassador for the WMHA at all times.

 

Please Note – All applicants are not guaranteed an interview. Applicants not receiving an interview request may contact the V.P of Travel to discuss.

Selection Process:

 At the conclusion of the applicant interviews, the Selection Committee will reach a decision on the successful applicants. Their recommendations will be presented to the WMHA Executives for approval. Successful and unsuccessful applicants will be advised of the decisions upon completion of the selection process, when the 2017/18 season has completed in its entirety.

Conflict of Interest Guidelines:

1. No Coach Selection Committee Member shall be permitted to participate in Stages 1 or 2 for a given division if they have a child or children eligible to try-out for that age division, or have applied to coach a team in that age division.

2. No Voting Selection Committee Member shall be permitted to participate in  Stage 2 of the coaching selection process, including the initial review, interview process or subsequent selection discussions for a division if they have a child or children eligible to try-out for that age division or have applied to coach in that age division.

4. Selection Committee Members and Voting Selection Committee Members in conflict will not receive the application packages for coaches in the age division in which they have the conflict.

If a declared conflict of interest arising from any of the above circumstances (or any other similar circumstances) causes the number of voting Coach Selection Committee Members to drop below 5, any travel committee member may be assigned voting rights as per the V.P of Travel.
