BLUEWATER DAY OF CHAMPIONS
MAR. 30, 2014

So the kids didn't give up and played solid all playoffs and placed as the top seed in the last Bluewater Novice AE game of the year at The Day of Champions.  This was the last chance to win a championship game this year and after 2 appearances already in championship games this season the kids were ready to get one.

The Jr. Spitfires opponent was the Kent Cobras.  This was a team Windsor couldn't seem to beat in the regular season but when these two team met in the playoffs Windsor would take the Cobras down with a 6-0 win.

The game started great for Windsor as they scored the opening goal 35 seconds into the game.  It was exciting from the time the puck dropped after the goal and 7 seconds counted down on the clock because that's how long it took Kent to reply.  Talk about taking the wind out of your sails.

The game went end to end in the first but once again the Cobras would score and take the lead going into the second.

The second period would see some chances from both teams and a lot of anxiety in the air from the fans on both sides.  But with 7 penalties called between both teams surprisingly no goals were scored.

So now what would the third bring you wondered.  Do we have a shot?  It was certain by now if Windsor was to get scored on again it would be an impossible task to come back the way this one was going.  But luckily short handed Windsor would score and tie the game.  By now being tied in the third it was next goal wins but the period would end in a tie forcing sudden death overtime.

Overtime was played 4 on 4 which I think both teams were a little unprepared for because your not exactly in those situations a lot during the season.  Needless to say this would allow 2 minutes of end to end solid scoring chances with huge saves from both goalies.  It was pretty crazy.  Only a matter of time though before someone scored.  Unfortunately after Windsor had a great chance in Kent's end the Cobras turned the play the other way and would come down and score the O/T winner and take the Day of Champions.

It was a heartbreaking finish but the kids did a great job to get there and fought hard.  They also would take home 1 more medal to finish the season.

What a finish.
