37th Annual Essex Early Bird Tournament
37th Annual Essex Early Bird Tournament

Some great hockey was played over the last four days at the Essex Early Bird Tournament.  The Windsor Jr. Spitfires faced some of their toughest competition to date.....

The tournament started off with an exciting and fast paced game against the Belle River Canadians.  Windsor came up short in a 1-0 loss but clearly the Windsor Jr. Spitfires are coming together and back checking very well and creating some excellent scoring opportunities.  In our second game against the Grimsby Kings we bounced back from our opening loss and just kept skating hard on every shift to win 4-0.  The third game of the tournament was against the Garden City Falcons and the players still energized from their early morning win played an impressive game to win 5-1.

In early Sunday morning semi final action the Windsor Jr. Spitfires squared off against the Burlington Eagles.  In a very fast pace game both teams battled very hard.  Burlington opened the scoring in the first period and Windsor Jr. Spitfires answered back within minutes to tie the game at 1-1.  Both teams had great opportunities for the remainder of the first period.  During the second period Burlington scored and Windsor kept up the pressure with some very close chances.  It was a nail bitter of a game with both teams skating very hard and trying their hardest.  With less than two minutes to go in 2-1 game Windsor was battling hard but Burlington Eagles played an excellent game and held off Windsor Jr. Spitfires constant pressure.  What a great tournament the players had a lot of fun and exciting hockey.
