Playdowns Round 2 Game#3 Windsor 2 Essex 1 OT
The Windsor Jr Spitfires took on the Essex Ravens in games 3 of their 6 point series. They are tied at one a piece and the compete level is tremendous. The improvement of this Essex team is such that the all associated with this program should be proud.
Our boys were in great spirits going into the match. Some of our parents were nervous, some cautiously optimistic and others were "walking in the clouds" (private joke).
While the Ravens were inside the dressing room our boys were keeping it loose, playing tag and running about. The look on the Ravens team was intense as they went for their pre-game warm up. In the dressing room our boys were business as usual, jamming and whooping it up.
The teams do their pre-game skate and line up to shake hands then finally the prepare for the puck drop. Just as it is about to go Johnny belts out another "LETS GO WINDSOR" and the Windsor parents go wild.
Period 1
As the puck drops Windsor pushes the puck into the Essex zone but it is moves quickly out. There is a lot of middle ice action as no team gains control. At the 6:47 mark Essex gets on the board with a goal after another scramble in front of the net. Essex has lots of speed and though hey aren't flashy they work as a unit and appear to have the drive to push us back and are able to get stick on us when we make a move on the offensive zone. Late in the first we are able to get a few decent shots on the net but their goalie is sharp. The period ends and we are down by a goal.

Period 2
As the action starts there are a couple chances on each side and no team has an advantage in play. Windsor isn't allowing many chances but their defense are forced to come up with some big plays. Kuharski has a monster period in this frame making some key plays and protecting our net minder. We are called for tripping as the ref's appear to be showing a blind eye for some questionable moments in our end. As we are on the PK we actually turn the tables and keep the pressure on the Ravens getting off a couple of quality shots. Another questionable off sides call stops one of our sharp shooters from a one on one break away - terrible call. Just after the hideous offsides call Windsor gets a chance with a beautiful pass in front of the net for a one timer that rings off the post. We are having terrible misfortune, perhaps this is another bad luck night. The period ends and our high flying offensive powerhouse is scoreless!!

Period 3
15 minutes to get our game together. This Essex team is holding us at bay. The period sees both teams fighting with all they've got and Windsor seems to be moving the puck into the Essex zone with greater frequency but just cannot capitalize. Windsor has their first power play and applies the pressure. A couple of chances are knocked away and then it happens a pass in front of the net and a scramble they finally works in our favor. Mosey is credited with the goal, assisted by Justin and Miller. We have a tie.
As play continues it is again back and forth. Windsor has the puck in the Essex end just a slight bit more and we are able to thwart any chances from Essex. With 1:25 left to play a call is made against us and we need to fight off a penalty. The puck drops and the Ravens are applying pressure, there is a scramble in front and there is an open right side but our defense clear it from the blue ice. Again the Ravens make a push but we are able to clear. As the period ends we are thrust into overtime a man down.

OVERTIME
The puck drops and the boys on each team are playing like it is the first period. Where do they get the energy?? There is again a lot of middle ice play but we seem to be push an offensive rush more than the Ravens but they certainly have been able to swarm our boys stopping any chances. At the 6 minute mark, number 25 comes on to the ice, and finds the puck after skating full speed. He crosses the blue line with the puck but it is knocked away. There is a fight in the corner and the puck makes it to the front of the goal. Another scramble and after a short battle the referee signals goal. ITS A GOAL AND #25 is the HERO OF THE GAME. KALEB HARWAY WITH THE UNASSISTED GOAL. WE WIN, WE WIN , WE WIN.
WHAT A GAME!!!
This was a game to remember. What a tough series. This seems to be all the Ravens know. They have been on the ropes and have battled back once. Let's not let it happen again.
