The Windsor Jr. Spits took on the league leading Riverside
Rangers in what would be the final regular season meeting between the two
teams.
Windsor went into the game leading the series 1-0-1 8-6 but
after a rough previous weekend lost out any chance at top spot at least with a
win or tie we could win the series against Riverside.
Period 1
The puck drops and it is knocked over to the wingers and the Riverside centerman picks it up and marches right to the net and scores just 11 seconds in. Not a great start. Windsor wins back the face off and march right back but are denied with a quick pad save from the Riverside goalie. Later a Windsor shot from way back is stopped. Now Riverside shoots but it is picked off. Very offensive game thus far. Knowler passes to Burns and it is saved. Miller is stopped. Muxlow is stopped. Riverside pushed forward and score going up 2-0. Windsor is fighting back as Muxlow is stopped twice. Later another break by Muxlow is turned away. Hotham is stopped. Now RIversde press the action and score again and Windsor is in a deep hole. As the period ends Windsor has many chances but are kept off the board and are down 3-0.
Period 2
The action is fast paced and both teams are guns blazing. Miller shoots from way back and Nalli is right in front to get Windsor on the score sheet. We are down 3-1. Later Riverside show why they are the number 1 offensive team in the league as they break to the net and score, going up 4-1. Windsor is facing off in the Riverside zone and Muxlow wins it to Knowler who bangs it in from way back. 4-2 great reflexes!! Now Hotham bangs one off the post. Aiden makes a big save on a Riverside forward. Muxlow fires one off the post. Again Muxlow can’t get through. And the period ends with Riverside leading 4-2
Period 3
Windsor is fighting back as Boismier shoots and is stopped. Now Muxlow receives a pass from Knowler and races to the net but is again stopped and gets his own rebound and finally puts one in. 4-3 Riverside. Riverside storm back and score now again up by 2 goals 5-3. Justin races up after a long pass from Wasy It is 5-4. What a game this has turned out to be. Now it is Nalli from Miller as they race down the ice together. ALL TIED UP. Riverside fight back and score again. Riverside is up 6-5. Windsor is pouring it on. Muxlow is stopped twice, Justin is stopped. Miller scores from Basile eveining it up at 6-6. With 2:19 left to play. Riverside has the puck in the Windsor zone. They are pressing the shoot and score with 1:07 left to play. Riverside is up 7-6. The puck drops and both teams are digging deep. Time runs out on Windsor and we lose a barn burner.
Windsor has one game left in the regular season. Windsor and LaSalle are ahead of Essex by a single point. Windsor plays LaSalle – winner secures second place. The loser could fall to fourth and a tie could have both LaSalle and Windsor behind Essex.

Windsor had the majority of quality chances but just couldn’t capitalize on them. Both teams are very fast with scoring ability. The series ends 1-1-1 14-13
Our team does not have any ice time prior to the LaSalle game. Let’s hope that changes as we will need some prep time against this tough team. Our last outing against the Sabres was a loss in the Belle River tournament final. Let’s hope we can turn things around.
