Play Down Round Robin Game#2 Windsor 5 Kent 3
On January 22, 2016 the Windsor Jr. Spits travelled the 401 to Chatham, Ontario Canada to take on the Kent Cobras. Kent was 1-1 in the round robin series, splitting a game a piece with LaSalle. Windsor had played one game and came away with a tie.
We were ready to roll after a long drive!! Thankfully the weather provided us with a safe and dry ride to the home town of the Cobras.
Period 1
The puck drops and Windsor fires off a quick shot as Hotham feeds Miller but the Kent goalie is quick with the pad save. Later, Kent turns it around and whips a shot from way back that bounces off Aiden’s shoulder and in. 0-1 we are down. Justin is stopped on a shot and Kent turns it around. The game play appears to be even at this point. Later Basile fires the puck in the corner and Muxlow picks it up. He is behind the net and fires it to the front to a waiting Knowler, who does not disappoint. We tie it up. Kent make a rush to the net and it is a herculean effort from Wasy to stop the shot but he is called for tripping. The period ends at one even.
Period 2
We start the period a man down but kill off the penalty. Later it is Kent with another break and again the speed of Wasylyk comes through as he chases his man down and knocks the puck away. Now it is Windsor taking over the game a bit applying more pressure. Laporte shoots the puck and Lester gets to it. Lester moves it over to Muxlow and boom it is a low shot from in close and we are winning!! 2-1 Windsor. Later there is a scramble in front of the Windsor goal and Windsor is called for grabbing the puck. A penalty shot is awarded to Kent. The shooter moves in and out and beats Aiden left pad side. 2-2. The period ends and we are going to be in for a heck of a 3rd period.
Period 3
Mila is now in goal and it isn’t long before Kent tests her. She makes a glove stop early on. Moments later Mila is hit hard from behind as a Kent skater is knocked into our net minder. Mila is down but only needs a few minutes to shake it off. Later Muxlow gets fed a pass from Justin and he scores. We are up 3-2. Kent fires back and score with a wrap around while on the power play. Now it is Miller with a goal from Muxlow. 4-3. Windsor is keeping the pressure on and have another questionable call as they appear to score on a wrap around but it is waved off. Kent pull their goalie and Miller fires one from way back and scores to close the show. It is a 5-3 win!!!
Windsor goes into 2 games with Tecumseh on Saturday and Sunday and are beaming with confidence.
