Play Down Game#6 Windsor 2 LaSalle 3
The Windsor Jr Spitfires travelled to LaSalle on the last day of January 2016. Windsor and LaSalle have been pretty close competitors this season. This game would prove to be very exciting. Windsor again will be short 2 players.
Period 1
The first period is very fast paced as both teams are here to win. LaSalle seems to be moving the puck quite well tonight. LaSalle’s#10 is shadowing Muxlow. Later it is Muxlow dipsie doodling the puck and puts it throught the defenders legs but shoots just wide. Miller is stopped with a pad save. LaSalle get their chances and shoot one high and over the glove hand of Woytowich. We are down 0-1. Now we are killing off a penalty and are successful with it. The game is exciting and quick. The first period ends and we are down.
Period 2
The puck drops and we have it in the LaSalle zone. Muxlow is stopped low pad. Later the puck deflected and ends up on a forward stick and he has 2 defenders to beat. He does and he scores. We have a big hole to dig ourselves out of. The game thus far is evenly played but we are down by 2 goals. Windsor is fighting back but solid chances are few. Windsor is doing a good job of stifling the LaSalle chances as well. After 2 periods Windsor will need to be on top of their game to get back into this one.
Period 3
Windsor is putting pressure on LaSalle. Boismier battles behind the net and comes away with the puck, he fires it up from to a waiting Muxlow, who one times it – scores!!! Muxlow from Boismier and Lester. We are back in this one. Just 2 minutes later LaSalle break into the Windsor zone. There is a scramble and the puck is in front on the Windsor goal. More battling and the LaSalle players are celebrating. Goal. We are down 3-1. Windsor is putting pressure on but not too many solid chances. Later, Windsor pulls the goalie with 1:30 left to play. Muxlow marches on and the puck goes right to his stick. He shoots low and scores. Muxlow from Hotham and Lester. We have 1:25 to score and tie this one up. There is a battle for the puck as Miller gets cornered by a team of Sabres. They are banging away at Miller and Muxlow rushes in an gets called for cross checking with 22 seconds left to play. Windsor pulls out the kitchen sink with the goalie on the bench. Miller has the puck and races in with seconds left and he is offended and tripped. Would this be a penalty shot – no. We have a face off with 3 seconds left. The puck drops and Reinmeitz wins the draw but the buzzer sounds before we can get a shot off.
With this loss we may have given up 1st place in the Play Down round robin. LaSalle is tough competition as the scores below show.
