Windsor Suffers First Defeat of the Season - Oct. 4, 2015
The Belle River Canadians AE 2 team travelled to the home turf of the previously undefeated Windsor Jr. Spits on a sunny October Sunday afternoon. With both teams defending their undefeated streak, it was obvious that this was going to be an exciting game!

First Period: The opposing Canadians opened the scoring early in the first period to make it 1-0, Belle River. Before the period was out, Windsor’s Pougnet and Vespa scored one each to give Windsor a 2-1 lead.

Second Period: The lead was short-lived and at 8:20 into the second, Belle River tied it up.

Now the Jr. Spits were piling on the pressure and desperately wanted another go-ahead goal, but even with a two-man advantage, they could not get the puck past the Canadians’ goal line. The Canadians, on the other hand, bolstered by the fact that they successfully managed to kill off 3 penalties, channelled that energy into another scoring opportunity and got their third goal of the game at 4:12, making it 3-2 Belle River to end the second.

Third Period: During the short intermission between periods the Jr Spits regrouped. Their team cheer could be heard all over the arena and when the puck dropped to signal the beginning of the final period, it was crystal clear that they weren’t about to let their unbeaten streak go down without a fight.

They didn’t have to wait long for another reason to cheer because at the 10:43 mark, Pougnet tied it up to make it 3-3.

As the clock ticked down, the excitement picked up. Both teams played at even strength and had several excellent scoring chances that left fans on the edge of their seats. Then, in a little scuffle along the boards, Windsor was handed a penalty with less than 3 minutes to go, giving the Canadians a power play. After successfully managing to shut down any rushes for the first minute of the penalty, Windsor lost control of the puck at their opponents blue line where it was quickly scooped up by a Canadian who  made short work of skating it down the ice and putting it past Larocque. Like the true champs they are, Windsor took it in stride and played their hearts out for the last 1:33 that was left in the game. Alas, it was not to be and the Windsor Jr. Novice AE suffered their first loss of the 2015-2016 season to the number one place Belle River Canadians.

Friday night the action continues when the Jr. Spits travel to Belle River to take on the Belle River Canadians AE 2 team.

Go Spits GO!
