Novice Rules

No player, team official or pucks are allowed on the ice or in the Bench area until the Zamboni doors are closed.

Any player or team official receiving a Gross Misconduct, a Match Penalty or a Fighting Game Misconduct will be ejected from the rest of the Tournament.

Any attempt to dress a player not on the team’s official roster will immediately disqualify that team from the tournament.

Any member of the coaching staff ejected from the game is also ejected from the tournament playing area. The ejected person must resign to the lobby area.

No pulling of Goalies during the game to add a player on the ice

Any team that is unable to start their scheduled game will forfeit that game. The non-offending team will receive the win and be credited with a 5-0 score. A minimum of 6 players is needed to start a game.

NECK PROTECTORS AND MOUTH GAURDS ARE MANDATORY. This includes goaltenders. Goaltenders must also wear a drop down bib attached to their facemask.

If a goaltender is injured, teams will be allowed a maximum of 10 minutes to dress another player if no backup is dressed, or play with 6 skaters. Skaters do not have goaltender privileges.

Tournament Rules

1) All players must be house league / local league players and must play for their own team.

2) All teams are to provide their OMHA approved roster for review by the tournament executive prior to their 1st game. If any team fails to supply this information, that team may forfeit each game until the proper paper work is supplied.

3) Teams are to be ready to play 15 minutes prior to their scheduled game start time, or will be in jeopardy of a forfeit of the game. There is minimal flexibility to reschedule games due to weather, and will be at the discretion of the tournament committee. If a forfeit is the decision of the committee, it will result in a score of 5-0.

4) All games will be played under OMHA rules.

5) Games consist of 3-10 minute stop time periods. There is no overtime in round robin play. The Semi-Final and FINAL games will consist of 2-10 minute & 1-15 minute periods. If the goal differential becomes greater than 5 goals in the 3rd period, the game time will be straight time. If the goal differential is reduced to 3 goals, the game will return to stop time. Penalties accumulated during straight time will be 3 minutes for a minor penalty, and 8 minutes for a major penalty. The only time the clock will be stopped during run time is for an on ice injury, or at the discretion of the referee.

6) Round robin play is by the point system:

2 points for winning a game

1 point for tying a game

7) If there is a tie in the round robin, the tie breakers are in the following order:

1 – head to head (points in their game)

2 – team with the most wins

3 – goal average of a team determined by total number of goals for divided by (total number of goals for plus total number of goals against)

4 – goals against

5 – goals for

6 – lowest penalty minutes

7 – flip of a coin

If 3 teams are tied, only the points accumulated between the tied teams will be considered in the first tie breaker. If any step in the tie breaker only seeds one team, that team assumes that position. The tie breaker method will continue to the next step to determine the tie breaker between the remaining two teams.

OVERTIME

Overtime will apply to Semi-final and Championship games only

For Semi-Final Games

Shootout Rules

· Before the start of the Semi-final and Championship games, the coach must declare the order his players will go in for the shootout.

· If the coach does not declare his shootout order before the start of the game, the players will then go in order of their jersey numbers starting with the lower number. Not including goalies.

· Shooters will go simultaneously.

· Three shooters will go in the first round of the shootout. After the three shooters have gone, the team that has scored the most goals will be declared the winner.

· If it is still tied after the three shooters, it will then go to head to head shootout. The first team to score, when their opponent did not will be declared the winner.

· No player can shoot twice during the shootout until all players on the team have taken a shot during the shootout. Bench sizes are not considered.
