Message from the WMHA President regarding open boundaries
Hockey Families,

The landscape of minor hockey in Ontario has changed drastically in the past 5 years and now we are on the verge of the biggest change in the history of minor hockey.  The open boundary initiative set forth by the OHF allows players to play representative hockey without restriction.   In the past 5 years we have seen significant changes to the OMHA rules, post season structure as well as many association mergers.  Throughout these ever changing 5 years Windsor Minor Hockey has been one of the most progressive organizations in Southern Ontario.  Choosing to listen to the concerns and needs of our members instead of staying “status quo”. Our board of Directors has chosen a path of progressive and responsive action to better the product and experience that our members receive.

In 2021, after the challenges of the pandemic,  Windsor Minor Hockey implemented a full Minor Development program.  Our U8MD and U9MD teams have had the luxury of playing as true MD teams.  We provide the full travel experience for our players as they do not play in house league. Our U8MD and U9MD teams receive two full ice practices a week, as well as weekend game ice, we provide professional development from DHD Hockey (Danny Anger) and Major League Goaltending (Derek Laporte).   WMHA provides the most possible ice time, development and progressive coaching in our area.

All of the WMHA travel teams from U8MD to U18A and U18B will have the ability to access to the high performance training center at Central Park Athletics, the training center is shared by Windsor AAA, WMHA and the Biosteel academy exclusively.  In addition to our individual team development, WMHA (thanks to our partners Central Park Athletics, DHD Hockey and Major League goaltending) will provide additional player and goalie development on weekends throughout the bulk of the season at no charge to our travel players.  Windsor Minor Hockey also provides the most additional free ice to our Travel teams.
(Please see the links at the bottom of this article for all of the details of our travel program and coaching bios)

WMHA will continue to run full representative hockey at all ages and levels (A, B and MD).  Additionally WMHA will continue to provide select programming at all levels from U7 to U18.  Our select program is a great transition from house league to travel hockey.

WMHA is dedicated to providing the best experience at all levels.  Our house league programming will continue to offer weekly Tuesday night skills sessions from our Director of Skills Rick MacMillan (ABS Hockey development).  This program has been very successful since it's implementation.

As always, our board of directors will continue to be present at the arenas and open to any questions or concerns you may have.

As the President of Windsor Minor and as a volunteer with WMHA for the past 12 years, I can proudly say that WMHA provides the best possible experience for our families.  We will continue to be at the forefront of minor hockey this coming season and for future seasons.

Yours in Hockey,

Kipp Van Kuren
