U11A CHAMPIONS!
The U11A team battled hard this past weekend and EARNED gold medals. The Jr. Spitfires were placed in the most competitive and skilled division in BIG BEAR- URSA MINOR in Ann Arbor, Michigan.
Our weekend started off in exciting fashion with a come-from-behind tie vs St Louis Rockets. Julian Saroli streaked to the net and buried his fourth and game-tying goal with only 8 seconds remaining, completing the comeback and earning the Jr. Spitfires a very important point. The tone was set. The Jr. Spitfires were on a mission.
Game 2, the Jr. Spitfires found themselves in a 3-1 hole vs. Wheeling Nailers going into the third period. Five unanswered third period goals by the Jr. Spitfires secured a 6-3 victory and kept the teams’ momentum going.
Round robin play was completed with a 3-3 Tie vs. Pittsburgh Arctic Foxes. The undefeated Jr. Spitfires were onto the finals for a rematch with the St Louis Rockets.
“USA! USA! USA!” was being chanted from the stands as the St. Louis team took the ice. But it would be chants of CANADA! CANADA! CANADA! heard in the arena as the final buzzer sounded and the Jr. Spitfires stormed the ice to celebrate a 3-1 victory.
