Season Format WMHA 2020
WMHA Families,

As we are finalizing registration costs, I would like to offer more insight on the outlook for the season and expand on our last letter that roughly detailed our season structure. As per the OHF framework we are implementing the following guidelines:
  • No Travel Hockey
  • No tryouts
  • No player evaluations
  • Leagues/cohorts/bubbles will be restricted to 50 participants
  • Strict compliance regarding social distancing
  • Players to be placed with like skilled groups based on where they played last year
  • Tiered hockey leagues with a 50-participant max per tier
  • Teams will be comprised of 9 skaters and 1 goalie

Tier 1 and 2

Tier 1 and 2 will be comprised of players who played in the house league divisions in 2019/2020. They will receive 1 jersey and a pair of socks per player. Each team will have 2 skates per week. For the first 2 weeks of this leagues season both skates will be drills and skills only. After this period, we can begin 3 on 3 hockey, and graduate to 4 on 4 hockey. No 5 on 5 hockey will be played unless the OHF approves the next phase.

Tier 3

Tier 3 will be comprised of players who played in the travel division during the 2019/2020 season. They will receive 1 jersey and a pair of socks per player. Each team will have 3 skates per week. For the first 2 weeks of this leagues season all three skates will be skills and drills only, with one skate being ran by our outside skills coaches. After this 2-week period we can begin 3 on 3 hockey, and graduate to 4 on 4 hockey. No 5 on 5 hockey will be played during this leagues season unless the OHF approves the next phase. We have also planned to partner with Riverside, and Tecumseh minor hockey associations to create a cross association league. Again this is not “travel” and is only being done for the continuity of skill development at this level. Tier 3 will have an additional cost above and beyond the base registration which all tiers are required to pay.

All players, volunteers, and WMHA families will have to adhere by social distancing policies while in the facilities, or while participating in a WMHA sanctioned event. Facility policies will be made available online under our “Covid-19” section and are the responsibility of the participant to review and abide by these policies. We look forward to our season beginning and want to ensure player health and safety is our number one priority this season.

Registration and payments

Registration is open now, and season costs are broken down below. We understand this is a hard year for everyone, therefore, we will be offering payment plans beginning September 1st, and will run through December. Furthermore, if you require assistance please reach out to us and we will help in any capacity we can. If there is a disruption during our season, and we are forced to cancel, we will refund and money using a prorated formula. If you have already registered and paid, we will adjust the season cost accordingly. If your child or anyone you know has not registered, but plan on participating this year, please have them register as soon as possible.

We are working hand in hand with our governing bodies Hockey Canada, OHF, and OMHA to ensure we are in complete compliance and maintaining the safest possible environment while providing quality hockey programming. Our commitment is to our players health and safety, therefore we will be not only following the minimum health guidelines, we are taking every step to go above and beyond to ensure all participants are safe while enjoying all the benefits hockey provides.
