The City's plan for removing a rink for curling.
It comes as no surprise that the City's plan to move curling from Roseland to a public rink has less to do with the cost of renovating the existing Club House and more to do with future development plans for the land.

Since prior to the August 8th council meeting there has been a plan to sell off some of the land and demo the clubhouse for high end condominiums. Within the first few minutes of discussion at the council meeting regarding the curling club, it became clear that the whole thing was a done deal and the council vote was perceived as nothing more than a formality. Only two councillors spoke against it and to his credit, Fred Francis broke the silence about the plan to develop the area into condos.

It is easy to make assumptions regarding the timing of the vote to close a city rink for curling and the announcement of the plans for development, it seems too much to be coincidence. I urge all of our members who have concerns regarding this plan, to reach out to their respective City of Windsor counsellors and voice those concerns.

This is all incredibly frustrating to all of the volunteers, players, coaches, and supporters of youth athletics in our City.
