EXHIBITION Windsor 1 AMHERSTBURG NOVICE A 3
The Windsor Jr Spitfires rode into Amherstburg to take on the Stars. Amherstburg has finished 3rd in the Novice AA division and just 2 points from the second spot. We knew we were going to be in for a rough go against this powerhouse team and our boys were game ready.

We arrived and were told the game was gong to start a half hour early. We rushed on the ice without a warm up and just went at it!!

Period 1

The puck drops and the game is on. The game is fast and it is quite clear that these guys have skill and tenacious but guess what we are hanging in with them. Our goalie is getting some shots on him but he is keeping us in there. We are also getting chances and I'm surprised how we are able to make this a competitive game. Amherstburg is NOT walking all over us and must be careful. Half way into the period Amherstburg goes up on a 2 on 1 break that happened fast. Our defensemen zigged when he should have zagged and the Stars capitalized with a wicked top shelf goal that our goalie had little chance on. As play resumed he had the pressure on keeping it in the Stars zone for an extended period of time showing why we are Blue Water Champs but just couldn't fire effective shots off.

Period 2

Our level of compete was on as we charged the opposition. We were playing them hard - so hard the ref's began to make their presence known. We were called for penalty after penalty and we played short handed for most the period. Not only did we play one man down but we played 2 men down and were able to effectively manage to hold them off. At the 5:38 mark Amherstburg goes up 2-0 but we fired back. With a man advantage our boys began to pressure them. A backhand blocker save on Muxy kept us off the score sheet. Later an onrushing Miller rung one off the post. Now we are a man up and our power play line is rushing in a shot from Muxy goes off the glove and behind the goalie and Reimneitz knocks it in. It's a one goal game and we are fighting back. The battle is fierce and Amherstburg is hanging on. They have great break away ability but our defenders are managing to get sticks on pucks when it counts. As the period ends it is a tight game!!

Period 3

The third period starts and within 2 minutes are face yet another 5 on 3. Amazingly our boys kills off both penalties and are back to even strength. We fire off 2 shots that are saved by the Stars tender and Amherstburg turns it around. The Stars go up 3-1 with 7 minutes left to play. We are going to need 2 goals to get back in this one and the Stars tender has been sharp. The remainder of the period is fought back and forth with the Windsor players giving everything they have. In the end we couldn't get it done but certainly gave them a run for their money.

Boy's once again you have exceeded expectations. These cross over games are extremely intense and will prepare us for the most adverse situations the play downs can offer. We are ready to go. We are ready to play. WE ARE READY TO WIN!!!
