PLAYDOWNS: VS BELLE RIVER AE2 GM1
FEB. 15, 2014

After a very long layoff from game play we set into Lakeshore to face The Belle River Jr. Canadians (2) in game 1 of the OMHA semifinals.  With both teams not playing any games in over 2 weeks it would be the advantage for the team that showed up ready to play.

The puck dropped in the first and immediately it was clear who was good to go.  The Canadians would come out strong keeping the puck in our end most of the time and being rewarded with 2 goals in the period.  We were clearly being out played by a team that had a serious fire lit under them.  Windsor did score late to finish the period down 2-1.

The second would be the same as Belle River's top players continued to pour it on.  Again The Canadians would tally twice.  But as the period was coming closer to the end a sleeping giant would be awoken!  The Jr Spitfires had arrived and the tables would start to turn.  The chances came in but some bad luck kept the puck out.

Down 4-1 going into the third the onslaught began and Windsor would get 2 goals in the start of the period.  The game is now 4-3 and the once written off spits are back in it.  There was lots of action and chances for both teams but the period was clearly all Windsor.  We were on the edge of seats but with 2 minutes left Belle River would sneak one in and the game would feel out of reach now......or was it?  30 seconds later Windsor would score again making the difference back to 1 goal.  With 1:30 left on the clock The Spits would take their time out and go over the final plan of attack.  Play resumed and Windsor gained the zone and the goalie was pulled.  We had some chances but couldn't get a solid attack going.  Although the kids had a 3 goal third period comeback
the game ended 5-4 for Belle River.

As always with these 2 teams the games are very close and exciting.  Game 2 is today at Adie Knox and if you attend expect nothing less than a great match between these Bluewater rivals.  The kids did a great job and just to let everyone know that this was the teams first defeat in league play since November 16th, 2013.

Let's go get one back!!  GO SPITS GO!!!
