And so it begins . . .
Well, it's a great day for hockey!

After the hard work in practice, now is the time to show what this team is capable of.  A home-and-home stand to begin the season against Lasalle should prove to be an early test.  I've heard parents and players anxiously waiting for this weekend, and I know it will be a great learning experience.

Just a couple of items to go over prior to the game tonight.

With the distribution of jerseys and socks, I'd just like to put out to parents that, if there are any duplicate pieces of equipment that you have lying around the house, it might be a good idea to put them in your son's hockey bag.  Neck guards break, mouth guards go missing, and one glove appears in a player's bag at an away game instead of two.  Obviously, it is the individual player's responsibility to ensure their equipment is complete, but things do happen.  It's best to be prepared, especially for away and tournament games.

I know this was presented at the parents' meeting, but I want to remind players and parents about the protocol for games:
- Players are to be in the dressing room 60 minutes prior to the start of a game;
- Team dress code for each game will be collared shirt and dress pants, and acceptable sneakers.  Team jackets are to be worn when we receive them;
- No hats are to be worn except in the dressing room;
- Parents are not permitted in dressing room and bench areas;
- Commit to the Fair Play Code:
- Play by the rules;
- Recognize all good plays - your, teammates, and opponents;
- Control emotions; do not be a show off; do not retaliate;
- Respect officials; no arguing calls, no complaining.
- Play for the love of the sport.

I know players can be nervous entering the game, but, as Wayne Gretzky once said, "You miss 100% of the shots you don't take."  Have confidence in your abilities as well as those of your teammates and coaches.

Good luck and ENJOY!
