Belle River Tournament Game #5 FINAL Windsor 1 LaSalle 2
The Jr. Spitfires met the LaSalle Sabres in the tournament final earlier this afternoon. It was an exciting game that could have gone either way but didn't. In the end we fell 2-1 and will have to wait to seek revenge in Blue Water play.
Period 1
The puck drops and Windsor takes control forcing the action. We fire off a couple shots but no real scoring chances. The action is hot and heavy as both teams are rushing the puck. A Windsor give away results in a break away and a lone LaSalle player is able to skate in on all alone and zig zag his way to a goal. One nothing LaSalle at the 6:05 mark. Later, Muxlow has a rush with one man to beat but the defender takes the body and the puck sails slowly to the goal tender. Windsor fights off a PK and with 30 seconds left tie it up as Muxlow hits the top shelf with the assist going to Knowler. At the end of one we are all tied up.
Period 2
Again it is a fast start as both teams are giving their all. Just over 2 minutes in another give away leaves a LaSalle forward rushing alone to our goalie. And again they score. We are down by one. Windsor is pushing hard to tie it up as Miller is stopped. Again Miller is stopped with a pad save. Now we are on the PP as Muxlow wins the faceoff to Miller and it is a quick shot that is saved. Another face off win from Muxlow to Miller and the shot bounces off a skate. Later, on the same power play Miller has it and is racing to the net. Muxlow is with him to his right. It is a 2 on 0. Miller makes his move and goes for the 5 hole but is stopped! What a heads up play by the goalie and a great save! The period ends and we are going to have to go for it in the 3rd.
Period 3
The teams are battling and it is very exciting. Miller is stopped. Muxlow is stopped. Windsor is putting on the pressure. Windsor is firing off shots that are loose in front. Wasy fires one from way back that sails just inches from the goal. Later another Windsor defender fires it and it is in front at Reinmeitz feet with the goalie out of position but he can't get his stick on it. We pull the goalie and are firing away. Lots of pressure but no goal. The game ends and we are on the wrong side of a 2-1 game.
It was a tremendous game and our team made us proud. A couple mistakes made the difference in this one. Bad bounces that can happen to any team on any given day. LaSalle has some great little players and will be a dangerous play off contender. We will see them one more time in our season finale.
